29th UOB Painting Of The Year Exhibition

I am exhibiting at the 29th UOB Painting Of The Year art exhibition

Venue: Esplanade Jendela Visual Arts Space

Date: 11th July to 25th July 2010.

The artwork is entitled Going Enviro Mental.

Enviro Going Mental is about mankind’s ecological destruction to the world’s crust. After years of building abuse, the crust has been pummelled to an inch of its life, not having a spare moment to breathe and acts out in disasters all over the world. The constant pressure of the weight of manmade structures forces the earth to contort into different shapes, yielding unusual results.

It has been selected from close to 700 entries and will be privately collected by United Overseas Bank Limited after the exhibition.

Since 1973, the UOB Group has been supporting budding local artists by selectively purchasing their works of art.  These artworks are displayed at the Group’s Head Office at 80 Raffles Place as well as at its network of over 500 offices worldwide.

In 1982, UOB took their patronage of the arts to the next level with the inaugural UOB Painting Of The Year (POY) Competition, which aims to promote greater interest in local art, encourage local artists to persist in their creative endeavours, and provide recognition for the best creative works. Alumni of the UOB POY Competition include Cultural Medallists such as Goh Beng Kwan, Thomas Yeo, the late Chua Ek Kay and Anthony Poon.

Over the last 28 years, the UOB POY Competition has been a tremendous success. Each year, the entries are evaluated by a panel of judges comprising artists/art connoisseurs/art curators specially appointed by the UOB Group Art Committee. The panel includes prominent personalities from the overseas art communities to ensure objectivity in the judging process.
